Abstract

Entertainment media ranks among the most influential cultural tools in the contemporary world, occupying a significant portion of the audience's mind and time. With the expansion of this type of media, a serious question arises in Imamiyyah jurisprudence: Is the production or consumption of these products religiously permissible? If not permissible, what criteria place them within the realm of forbidden 'Lahw wa La'ib' (diversion and play)? This article seeks to address this issue and provide a jurisprudential model for assessing the legitimacy of media entertainment. By utilizing reliable jurisprudential sources such as Al-Makasib, Shara'i al-Islam, and Masalik al-Afham, and analyzing narrations and contemporary fatwas, it concludes that entertainment media are legitimate if the remembrance of God, a rational objective, or moral benefit is considered within them; otherwise, and if they promote negligence or falsehood (Mufid, Muhammad bin Muhammad, 1365 Solar Hijri, Vol. 1: 204), they will be considered instances of forbidden 'Lahw wa La'ib' from the perspective of Imamiyyah jurisprudence.
